Zoanthropes, the formidable psykers of the Tyranid army, serve as vital conduits of the Hive Mind’s psychic energy. Through their immense psychic prowess, Zoanthropes can unleash a range of devastating abilities, manipulating the fabric of reality and shielding their allies from harm, effortlessly intercepting even the most formidable artillery shells with their awe-inspiring psychic might.
What’s in the Zoanthropes box
- x80 plastic components that make 3 Zoanthropes, powerful psychic bio-weapons that channel the might of the Hive Mind on the battlefield. You also have the option of building a Neurothrope and two Zoanthropes, or three Venomthropes.
- x3 Citadel 40mm Round Bases.
How to paint the Zoanthropes set
- Step 1: Basecoat the Chitin Armor
Grab a fine detail brush and apply a solid black basecoat to the Neurothrope’s chitin armor using Abaddon Black.
- Step 2: Shading
Using a medium-sized brush, add depth and shadows to the chitin armor by applying a wash like Nuln Oil or Agrax Earthshade. Make sure to get the wash into the recesses for a more realistic effect.
- Step 3: Highlight the Chitin Armor
Once the wash has dried, pick out the raised areas of the chitin armor with a lighter shade of black, such as Eshin Grey. Use a fine detail brush to carefully highlight the edges and contours, creating a subtle gradient effect.
- Step 4: Paint the Skin
Choose a vibrant red color like Mephiston Red and apply thin layers evenly to the exposed areas of the Neurothrope’s skin. Build up the color with multiple coats if needed to achieve a smooth coverage.
- Step 5: Apply Red Shading Wash
Enhance the depth of the red skin by selectively applying a shading wash designed for red tones, such as Carroburg Crimson. Focus on the recesses and crevices, allowing the wash to flow naturally and create realistic shadows.
- Step 6: Highlight the Skin
After the wash has dried, use a fine detail brush to highlight the raised areas of the skin with a lighter red color. Evil Sunz Scarlet is a great choice for this step, allowing you to accentuate muscle definition and facial details with subtle highlights.
- Step 7: Details
Bring out the details of the Neurothrope by using specific Citadel paints for different elements. For the eyes, consider using Flash Gitz Yellow or Warpstone Glow for a striking contrast against the red skin. When painting the talons or accessories, Leadbelcher or Runefang Steel can add a metallic touch or Waaagh! Flesh can be used for any additional organic elements.
- Step 8: Varnish
To protect your hard work and give the model a professional finish, apply a matte varnish to the entire Neurothrope. This will help preserve the paintwork and provide a consistent appearance.
