Corvus Black Paint Review

The Corvus Black paint from Citadel Colour is a staple of any miniature painter’s palette, as it is an essential base coat that can be used as a foundation for a wide range of colours. This high-quality paint has a matt finish and is made from finely-ground pigments suspended in an acrylic medium, which allows it to adhere well to a variety of surfaces. Corvus Black provides excellent coverage and is a great choice for beginners, as it can be used to create a smooth, even base coat that is ready for further layers of paint. With its deep, rich hue, Corvus Black is a versatile and reliable choice for miniature painting, and is a must-have for any painter’s palette.

What  armies of chaos to paint with Corvus Black

In choosing these three armies, I considered a variety of factors, including the popularity of the armies within the Warhammer 40K universe, the visual impact of painting them with.

  • The Chaos Space Marines: The Chaos Space Marines are the corrupted counterparts of the Imperium’s Space Marines, and are known for their heavily-armoured power armour and advanced weaponry. Corvus Black would be a great choice for painting the armour of the Chaos Space Marines, as it would help to create a sense of unity and cohesion within the army, and would complement the dark, demonic aesthetic of the Chaos Space Marines.
  • The Chaos Daemons: The Chaos Daemons are malevolent, otherworldly beings that are summoned to the material plane to wreak havoc and destruction. Corvus Black would be a great choice for painting the daemonic creatures of the Chaos Daemons, as it would help to create a sense of shadowy, otherworldly menace, and would complement the dark, chaotic nature of the Chaos Daemons.
  • The Chaos Cultists: The Chaos Cultists are mortal followers of the Chaos gods who seek to bring about the end of the world and the domination of the Chaos powers. Corvus Black would be a great choice for painting the weapons and equipment of the Chaos Cultists, as it would help to create a sense of grim, sinister purpose, and would complement the dark, fanatical nature of the Chaos Cultists.

Corvus Black Colour Schemes & Combinations

In general, the decision to use specific colours together is often based on colour theory, which is the study of how colours interact with each other. One principle of colour theory is the use of complementary colours, which are colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel.

For example, red and green are complementary colours. Split-complementary colours are a combination of a colour and the two colours on either side of its complementary colour. For example, red, yellow-green, and blue-green are split-complementary colours.

Analogous colours are colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel. For example, red, orange, and yellow are analogous colours. These colours can be used to create a cohesive and harmonious colour scheme.

Highlights and shadows can also be used to add depth and dimension to a model. Highlights are areas of a model that are lighter than the surrounding colours, while shadows are areas that are darker. By carefully considering the placement of highlights and shadows, you can create the illusion of three-dimensionality.

Balance is also an important consideration when selecting colours. A balanced colour scheme is one that is visually appealing and pleasing to the eye. This can be achieved by using a combination of light and dark colours, warm and cool colours, and saturated and unsaturated colours.

One way to find a good colour combo is to look for a metallic colour that complements the other colours in the scheme. Metallics, such as silver and gold, can add a touch of glamour and sophistication to a model.
