How to paint the Officio Prefectus Commissar set
- Step 1: Base Coat
Start by applying a base coat of black paint to the entire miniature. This will serve as the foundation for the Commissar’s iconic black greatcoat.
- Step 2: Uniform
Paint the uniform areas, such as the jacket and trousers, with a dark color like Eshin Grey or Macragge Blue. Use thin layers to build up the color gradually, ensuring smooth coverage.
- Step 3: Cap and Boots
Paint the peaked cap and boots with a contrasting color, such as Mournfang Brown or Vulkan Green. Take your time to achieve clean and precise lines.
- Step 4: Metallic Details
Paint any metallic details, like the belt buckle, pistol holster, and sword hilt, with a metallic silver or gunmetal color. Apply the paint carefully to highlight these areas.
- Step 5: Facial Features
Use Kislev Flesh to bring out the facial features of the Commissar. Paint the eyesa and eyebrows with Abaddon Black, adding depth and expression to the miniature.
- Step 6: Weapons
Choose the weapon configuration for your Commissar, either a bolt pistol or a plasma pistol. Paint the weapon with metallic colors and add any desired additional details, such as glowing energy coils for the plasma pistol.
- Step 7: Details and Insignia
Add additional details to the miniature, such as the Imperial Aquila on the chest, rank insignia, and any decorative elements. Use a fine brush and steady hand to bring out these small but important features. Retributor Armour would work great for this.
- Step 8: Highlights and Shading
Apply highlights to raised areas using a lighter shade of the base color to add depth and dimension. Use Nuln Oil for shading in recessed areas. This step will help enhance the overall appearance of the miniature.
- Step 9: Base
Paint the base of the miniature to represent the battlefield terrain. You can use various techniques, such as dry brushing or applying technical paints, to create a realistic effect.
- Step 10: Varnish
Apply a layer of varnish to protect your paintwork and give the miniature a finished look. Choose between matte, satin, or gloss varnish depending on your desired effect.
