Custodian Wardens, revered for their unwavering vigilance and patience, stand as stalwart defenders within the ranks of the Adeptus Custodes. Bound by solemn oaths and encased in auramite armor, they serve as impenetrable bulwarks, their personal vows etched in contemplation after a year of meditating atop the precipitous ledges of the Gallowtower. These warriors hold their oaths sacred, transcending mere dedication and bolstering their formidable will with an intensity that is truly awe-inspiring.

This multi-part plastic kit enables the assembly of a 5-member Custodian Warden squad. Adorned with ceremonial robes over their resplendent auramite armor, they exude a striking presence. The meticulous sculpted details embellish every surface of their armor, featuring intricate gemstones, eagles, lightning bolts, and filigree. Each Custodian Warden can be equipped with a choice of guardian spear or castellan axe, with both options provided in the kit. Furthermore, the kit offers interchangeability of helmets, helmet plumes, and thigh plates, allowing for the creation of unique and individual Wardens.

Additionally, the kit provides the option to construct a Shield-Captain, distinguished by a variety of exclusive components. With a choice of two bare heads, a distinct chest plate, unique shoulder pads, and ceremonial robes, the Shield-Captain epitomizes leadership. Armed with either a castellan axe or guardian spear and carrying a misericordia, their presence commands respect. Furthermore, one model can be assembled as a Vexilus Praetor, boasting an ornate Vexilla alongside the standard weapon choices.

How to paint the Custodian Wardens set

  1. Step 1: Basecoat the Models
Apply a smooth and even basecoat to the Custodian Wardens using a gold paint, such as Retributor Armor, to achieve a solid foundation for further painting.
  2. Step 2: Paint the Armor
Using a small brush, carefully paint the intricate details of the armor with Liberator Gold. Take your time to ensure precision and coverage.
  3. Step 3: Highlight the Armor
Add depth and dimension to the armor by applying lighter shades of silver, such as Stormhost Silver, to the raised areas and edges. This technique called highlighting helps to create a more realistic and visually appealing appearance.
  4. Step 4: Paint the Red Trim
Use a fine brush to paint the ornate red trim on the armor. Start with a basecoat of a deep red paint, such as Mephiston Red, and then highlight the edges with a lighter red shade, like Evil Sunz Scarlet.
  5. Step 5: Add Details
Paint the smaller details of the Custodian Wardens, such as the gemstones, eagles, lightning bolts, and filigree, using appropriate colors. For example, paint the gemstones with a bright blue shade like Baharroth Blue.
  6. Step 6: Paint the Weapons
Choose either a guardian spear or a castellan axe for each Custodian Warden and paint them accordingly. For the spear, a dark metallic paint like Warplock Bronze can be used as a base, followed by dry brushing with a lighter metallic shade. For the axe, a metallic silver paint like Leadbelcher can be used as a base, followed by a wash of Nuln Oil to enhance the details.
  7. Step 7: Apply a Wash
To add depth and shading to the overall model, apply a wash, such as Agrax Earthshade, over the painted areas. This will darken recesses and enhance the overall definition of the Custodian Wardens.
  8. Step 8: Paint the Base
Paint the base of each model using suitable colors and techniques. Consider using a brown shade like Rhinox Hide for the ground, and then add texture with dry brushing lighter shades and adding tufts of grass or other scenic elements.
  9. Step 9: Varnish the Models
Once the paint is dry, apply a protective varnish to the Custodian Wardens to preserve the paint job and add a professional finish. Matte varnish can be used for a non-reflective appearance.
