A lion-hide cloak, interwoven with adamantine thread, drapes dramatically over his right shoulder, featuring the head and front paws of the lion. A halo of auramite frames his determined face, while the entirety of the suit boasts intricate sculpted details, setting the Adeptus Custodes apart from other warriors of the Imperium. In his right hand, he wields the Watcher’s Axe, a colossal polearm incorporating the ferocious master-crafted bolt weapon known as the Eagle’s Scream. How to paint the Captain-General Trajann Valoris set

  1. Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace
Before you begin, set up a clean and well-lit area to work in. Ensure you have all the necessary materials within reach, including brushes, paints, water, and a palette.
  2. Step 2: Prime the Model
Using a primer, apply a thin, even coat to the entire model. Priming helps the paint adhere better and provides a smooth surface for painting. Citadel Colour offers a variety of primers, such as Chaos Black or White Scar.
  3. Step 3: Basecoat the Armor
Start by basecoating the armor with a solid color. For Captain-General Trajann Valoris, you can use Retributor Armor. Apply thin layers, allowing each coat to dry before adding the next. This helps achieve a smooth and even finish.
  4. Step 4: Apply Washes
To add depth and shading to the model, use washes. Agrax Earthshade is a great choice for this step. Apply the wash to recessed areas, such as the gaps between armor plates and crevices. The wash will settle into these areas, creating shadows and enhancing the details.
  5. Step 5: Highlight the Armor
Using a lighter color, highlight the raised areas of the armor to create contrast. Liberator Gold can be used for this purpose. Apply thin lines or dots to the edges and prominent surfaces of the armor. This technique helps bring out the details and adds a sense of depth.
  6. Step 6: Paint the Details
Now it’s time to paint the smaller details on the model. Use paints like Abaddon Black for the weapon handle and Mephiston Red for any cloth or insignias. Take your time and use a small brush to ensure precision.
  7. Step 7: Add Accents and Decorations
To make Captain-General Trajann Valoris truly stand out, add accents and decorations. Citadel Colour’s Runelord Brass can be used for small details like buckles and filigree. For gemstones, try using Waystone Green for an eye-catching effect. Remember to thin your paints and apply multiple thin layers for smooth coverage.
  8. Step 8: Finishing Touches
To protect your hard work and give the model a polished look, apply a coat of varnish. Citadel Colour’s Munitorum Varnish is suitable for this purpose. Follow the instructions on the varnish bottle and apply a thin, even layer. Allow it to dry completely.
  9. Step 9: Basing (Optional)
For a completed look, you can base the model. Apply texture paint, such as Astrogranite, to the base. Once dry, you can paint the base to match your desired theme, whether it’s a sandy desert or a grassy field. Paints like Mournfang Brown or Steel Legion Drab work well for basing.
